Start at Songshan

Travel to Songshan station and use the station's current signs to find the Raohe Street and Ciyou Temple area. Look at the temple from the public approach; if entering, follow the site's visitor instructions. This gives you a clear meeting point before walking into the market.

Walk the street before ordering

Enter from the temple end and browse the first stretch of food stalls. Compare menu boards, portions and preparation before choosing a savory stop. Ask about fillings if a dish is unfamiliar. Keep the center of the lane clear when stopping to read or decide.

Put dinner and snacks in order

If this is dinner, start with a filling dish, then choose one smaller snack to share. If you already ate, make the market a short snack stop instead. Leave a drink or dessert until later so you can judge your appetite. Choose from what is actually offered that evening rather than hunting a promised stall.

Finish and return

Continue toward the other end of the market, then decide whether to return along the street or extend the walk toward the riverside and Rainbow Bridge if conditions suit. Check the walking route on your map and allow time to return to Songshan station. In heavy rain, shorten the outdoor part and choose a seated meal.

Find a dish you would like to try

For dinner, look for a rice bowl such as lu rou fan or a noodle soup before adding snacks. A hujiao bing (pepper bun) is a filling savory option; compare its meat filling and pepper level before ordering. For something lighter afterward, consider aiyu jelly. Use the dish cards below to recognize these options, then choose from the menus you find on your route.

Before you order

  • Check fillings, broth and sauces as well as the main ingredient.
  • Ask about the serving size before ordering several dishes.
